The day was cloudy, cool, and mild.  The War Memorial Park Dedication was a spectacular display of honor, community, and hope. With money donated from the Signal Peak Foundation as well as several local donations by contractors, Florin, Pronto, S & K Trucking and Concrete, and many others, six new flags, lights, flag poles, and landscaping, the park was ready for the dedication.

The celebration began with members of the local Post 4925 giving an introduction to the event, Bill Edwards of the local radio channel 99.9 FM provided music and microphone for the event, followed by the singing of the national anthem by Wade Rongen, then the Pledge of Allegiance was stated by all in attendance.  A speaker of the newly formed Space Force spoke to the crowd, followed up by Commissioner Goffena, and Mayor Jones.

Then the “Quilts of Valor” group honored five veterans with handmade quilts, made with patriotic materials.  Each veteran honored was given a quilt, pillowcase, and a certificate, as well as being introduced with the story of their military service.  With money donated from Signal Peak Foundation the quilters are funded to continue the service of a “Quilt of Valor” for veterans.

Six flags for each branch of the military, the Army, Navy, Marines, Airforce, Space Force, and Coast Guard, were raised with great respect.  With the anthem for each branch being played, representatives of each branch of the military took part in raising the flag they represented.

At the close of the ceremony celebration, there was a twenty-one gun salute and the taps were solemnly played in remembrance of those who have lost their lives in service, and those missing in action.
